A Data Use Policy is not needed by most companies or sites, but is really a new and more involved type of privacy policy combined with a terms of service used by social networks such as Facebook. Since they collect massive amounts of personal data from site members including not only email address, physical address, DOB – but also photographs and even personal video. You can see just how complicated Facebook’s Data Use Policy is.

If your site does not do any of these things, you probably do not need such an involved policy – however, always consult with a qualified legal advisor prior to making such a decision.
